Individual Learning Profiles

ILP is an online software designed for schools to maximise teaching and learning potential. A brain dominance assessment identifies a learning profile and the software has the tools to produce individual reports, group and whole class learning reports, optimal seating plans, classroom organisation strategies with teaching techniques and approaches that match the learning needs of the individual, group and the whole class.

The secure online software provides teachers quick and easy tools to:

Profile student with a brain dominance assessment that reveals the inherent learning strengths and identifies learning environments that disengage students.
Provide individual and personalised learning reports for students, parents, teachers and support staff with practical and insightful student-focused strategies to support achievement.
Create the optimal learning environment for the whole class using the group overview feature that identifies the overall learning styles and compatible teaching styles.
Raise achievement and motivation for learning by grouping students according to their compatible or complimentary learning styles; supports peer learning strategies, inclusion and personalised learning practically and effectively.
Demonstrate and plan lessons that are learner orientated using the downloadable reports identifying any group/class strengths and weaknesses.
Engage all types of learners effectively and efficiently with a wealth of targeted teaching methods/techniques, self directed learning strategies and assessment ideas.

For the first time, teachers are able to use software to identify learning strengths based on brain profiling of individuals, and the learning style trends of any group or class. Using intuitive applications teachers can instantly create optimal learning environments through student grouping. The assessments and reports are suitable for students aged 7 years to school leavers.

Matching the teaching and learning style improved results
"We feel sure that the improved results in our QCA year 3 and 4 tests, and in SATs, can be attributed to matching the teaching styles with the learning styles we discovered when we did the ILP assessments"
Head Teacher, Watling Lower school
Creating outstanding lessons - current challenges faced by schools

Traditional teaching methods do not engage or motivate all learners. New methods and strategies aim to be more engaging, but are not necessarily matched to the preferred learning styles of the students. Some students still struggle to engage with learning or reach their potential. A strong emphasis on testing and grading has forced many schools to focus on assessing and tracking achievement, with less time available for understanding how students learn, and which teaching methods will support achievement.

Traditional teaching methods do not support an inclusive learning environment as students who are seen as low achievers, with additional or special education needs, regularly fail in this environment.
It is very hard to identify and predict new classroom strategies that will match the preferred learning needs of students.
Schools have been forced to focus on assessing and tracking learning with less time and emphasis available to identify how students learn.
Large class sizes make it difficult to personalise learning.
One child who had never done particularly well, just flew
"It was amazing. We had this one child, who's never done particularly well.. We put him in the group with compatible learners, rather than an ability group, and he just flew!"

How does ILP help to engage and motivate all learners?

We all learn in different ways. ILP is based on research into brain and sensory development, and its effects on the way we receive, process, and communicate information. One way to gain insight into how we are differently 'wired' for learning, is through brain and sensory dominances.

We all favour a lead, or 'dominant' hand, eye, ear, foot and brain hemisphere, and these give rise to 32 very different learning profiles, which we default to more strongly when under stress.

Our schooling has been shown to favour those with certain profiles, at the expense of those with a different way of learning. For example, in one study, educationalist and neuro-biologist Carla Hannaford recorded the brain dominance profile of 218 students in one school. She found that 78% of those in special education were right brain dominant, presumably having been trapped in a cycle of stress, in an environment 'hostile' to their needs, while those labeled 'gifted and talented' were more likely to have a left brain dominance.

ILP offers the most complete system of identifying and matching learning and teaching available today. With ILP, teachers create motivating and engaging learning environments, and enable students to reach their potential, feel valued and confident to excel.

What is the dominance assessment?

Assessing dominance is simple and effective. There are 4 physical tests of dominant eye, ear, foot and hand that identify processing bias. This is followed by a left and right brain questionnaire that shows motivational influences and thinking preferences.

The profile reveals how a person's brain is naturally organised for receiving visual and auditory information, planning and communicating, processing information, and the learning environments they naturally thrive in or become demotivated and alienated by.

School administrators create teacher accounts where they can access assessment recording sheets and tutorials.
Any member of staff can carry out an assessment with an individual, group or the whole class
Only takes between 10 and 20 minutes depending on the size of the group.
Physical dominance tests of eye, ear, foot and hand identify processing biases
Left or right brain test shows motivational and thinking preferences.
Profile shows natural bias for and disengagement with particular teaching styles
I feel I am actually teaching the children
"I now feel I am actually teaching the children rather than teaching at them"

What are the Individual Learning Profiles Reports?

Once logged onto the software a report can be instantly downloaded as a pdf. It can be saved, emailed and printed.

The reports give guidance and practical support to help students to become skilled learners, and ideas for teachers on creating and delivering effective and engaging lessons. Each individual learning profile report includes:

Learning strengths and preferred learning styles
Possible challenges in learning, behaviour or communication
Seating suggestion for optimal learning
Most effective teaching strategies
Whole brain training activities
Specialised movement exercises to reduce the effects of stress on learning
They actually made improvement almost immediately
"When we moved the strugglers to the seating positions recommended on their profiles, they actually made improvements almost immediately"
Cranfield VC Lower School, Bedfordshire
How does the the Online Software work?

As a secure online software programme, teachers can access their account by logging in from any computer with an internet connection. There are no restrictions to the number of classes, groupings or individual, group and class reports that can be printed.

The ILP software is an incredible resource that is rich in applications. It provides teachers with the essential tools to deliver tailored lessons that meet the learning needs of not just an individual student, but any group or class.

Designated school administrators can purchase additional credits, set up teacher accounts, see the profile of any student and have an overview of every class, group and school year.
Teachers can see the profile of their students, print reports, and see the profile of the whole class. The onscreen display and printable reports can be used for creating learner orientated lesson planning.
Group students together for seating plans, project work, peer learning or team activities by their similar or complimentary learning styles. Use the teaching guides and reports to support every learning group simply and effectively.
Heads of year can create classes by matching students and teachers together by their shared learning, profile or create classes with a balance spread of learning styles.
It was brilliant, they were all on my wavelength
"I was given the students who had a similar profile to me. It was brilliant they just understood what I was talking about. They were all on my wavelength."

Individual Learning Profiles

Fascinating, insightful and ground breaking - a course rich in practical ideas and resources to raise achievement in the classroom

Give your class, year group or whole school the learning buzz and help every child achieve with ILP training. Combining practical activities, familiarisation of the software, assessments and the reports. We take a look at the background theory and the role of the brain in learning, and how simple tweaks in teaching style can create outstanding lessons and raise attainment.

With ILP training you will:
Expand your knowledge and understanding of the different ways the brain processes learning and the impact stress has in the ability to retain information.
Raise pupil achievement by assessing their learning needs and identify their natural skills, weak areas and how implementing recommended strategies can help them excel.
Deliver outstanding teaching by tweaking the learning environment and teaching style to match the needs of the class as a whole, groups of pupils or individuals.
Promote positive learning attitudes and effective peer learning through grouping students and differentiating learning by matching skills and learning style instead of by ability.
Improve student's independent study skills by providing them, and their parents, with effective strategies to manage stress and improve home study and exam revision techniques
